Our Board of Directors

Blake Gibbs, President

After a long career in business, with significant experience in management and accounting, Blake Gibbs joined Agape in August 2003 to help manage the organization’s day-to-day operations. On October 1, 2005 he was asked to become Agape’s Executive Director. He reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the over-all direction of the ministry and for overseeing all of its operations both in the United States and overseas. His duties include developing long range plans for the ministry’s operation and expansion for Board approval; preparation of annual plans and budgets for Board approval; development of policy recommendations for the Board; implementation of the plans, policies, and budgets approved by the Board; and supervision of Agape’s missionaries and staff. He and his wife, Esther, travel regularly to Kenya to confer with our missionaries and national staff.

Darla Calhoun, Secretary

Darla Calhoun R.N. moved to Kisumu in 1991 to do Community Development work as part of a mission team. Having raised boys, she was touched by the way she found street boys being forced to live. They obviously needed love and someway to have their basic needs met. So in 1993, she started a home for 5 boys to see it they could adjust after sniffing glue to keep themselves warm, depress their appetites and give them courage to survive. With the help of Mr. Angang (pictured) she was able to acquire the necessary official papers. The boys began thriving and Agape Children’s Ministry was born. What joy to see the change as the children have come to know their Heavenly Father.
